The Agroforestry Academy

Interest in agroforestry is on the rise but adoption is constrained in part due a lack of sufficient advisory capacities to support the design, implementation and management of these systems.

To address this gap there is a need for a national agroforestry advisory program and qualification based on best practices from agriculture, forestry and aboriculture to support the development of contextualised and effective agroforestry systems.

Vocational qualifications and chartered statuses exist for many land-based professions, and a similar approach could be taken for developing high-quality advisory capacities to support agroforestry development.

The diagram below offers a conceptual theory of change for the development of an agroforestry training program or ‘academy’ for advisors.
