Introducing the Agroforestry Designer Toolkit: A Game-Changer for Land Managers
I’m thrilled to share that the Agroforestry Designer Toolkit is now available from Land App – a free digital tool designed to simplify agroforestry planning. I developed this tool in collaboration with the team at Land App in partnership with Shropshire Council. The toolkit makes agroforestry more accessible and practical for farmers, estate managers, and land agents across the UK.
Why This Toolkit Matters
Agroforestry has immense potential to enhance biodiversity, improve farm resilience, and even boost productivity. Yet, designing agroforestry systems can be daunting. That’s why we created a tool that generates custom agroforestry designs in seconds, helping land managers integrate trees into their systems efficiently.
As an agroforestry designer, I’ve worked closely to ensure this tool meets real-world needs. My hope is that it demystifies agroforestry and gives land managers the confidence to explore tree integration without upfront consultancy costs. These designs produced won’t necessary give you a final product, but rather serve as initial concepts that can serve as a foundation for funding applications and further planning discussions.
What Can You Design?
The toolkit offers three key agroforestry models:
- Linear Agroforestry: For alley cropping and silvopasture.
- In-field Grid/Dispersed: Ideal for wood pasture and shade systems.
- Traditional Orchard: Supporting orchard creation and stewardship schemes.
Each design aligns with government grants like the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) and Countryside Stewardship (CS), ensuring land managers can access funding with ease.
